![]() Sure, the target takes 4d10 damage every turn if it keeps failing saves, but for a 4th level slot I can literally just pick Blight and do 8d8 instantly for a single save, or, hell, upcast Hold Person to 4th level and PARALYZE 3 enemies with just a single save, allowing my entire team to whoop their asses. The way I read it, I thought that at least if the target fails the initial save and becomes Frightened they have to roll the follow-up saves with disadvantage, but I then realized that Frightened targets only have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks, not saves.įor a 4th level slot, Phantasmal Killer just seems so incredibly unreliable for what it does. ![]() ![]() I've read everything I could find online about this spell, including Sage Advice, and basically it seems that, indeed, it's a 4th level Concentration spell that allows its single target to save twice before it takes any damage, in addition to being able to save and end the effect at every round AND it being a concentration spell. There's still some ambiguity to it which I don't like, but overall I think we've gotten a sense of how it's supposed to work. I know there's been a ton of questions about how this spell works, whether the source of fear follows the target, whether it's save-or-suck from the first save. ![]()
