![]() This is partly because it's not clear that changing the Multicast setting was going to help with Airtunes dropouts anyway. Pretty bizarre, I can't figure out why it's doing this-related to WDS somehow? I forgot to check to see whether it would take a different multicast setting if I set the AE to act as a client instead of a WDS remote. After loading an older firmware, factory reset, manually enter settings, including double checking Multicast "2" was set, and saved. On restart, Multicast was set to "6".ģ) Downgraded to EACH of the previous firmware versions I had available in Airport Utitlity 5.6: firmwares 7.6.3, 7.6.1, 7.6, 7.5.2. Manually reentered all my settings, including double checking Multicast "2" was set, and saved. When the factory config loaded, it was set to the default Multicast "2". Loaded at Multicast "6", updated to "2", on restart it was still at "6".Ģ) Did factory reset. Thanks, so I bit the bullet and tried the following (recreating WDS settings wasn't as nightmarish as I remembered):ġ) Saved my configuration, reset the AE from Airport Utility, reloaded my configuration. This fellow seemed to have a similar problem, but no solution, with a Time Capsule a few years ago: 3 I was thinking I'm getting kicked off the network when it drops below 6, even though I should be able to stream audio with only 1 or 2 Mbps. I'm guessing this is from all the interference and networks in my crowded apt building. Option-clicking the Airport icon in the menu bar shows transmit rate has dropped to 5 (Mbps) during the dropout. The reason I want to change the Multicast Rate: I often get Airtunes/Airplay drops when streaming from iTunes while only 3 or 4 feet from the Express. I am reluctant to do a full reset since it was a nightmare to get all the WDS settings correctly working (hint there: only WEP 128-bit hex works, not WPA, etc.), and the likelihood I'll miss something and spend days fixing it is pretty high. I tried also changing the multicast rate on the Linksys to 2 just in case the Express was somehow 'reading' it from the Linksys, but that doesn't make a difference. It is connecting to a Linksys WRT54G running Tomato. ![]() The Express is set to "Participate in WDS network" as a remote on an 802.11g only network. On multiple restarts.Įxpress firmware 7.6.4. The setting doesn't stick, or somehow always reverts to 6. Hit "Done" and then "Update," the utility says waiting to restart, says settings successfully changed, the Airport Express blinks amber, then goes green again. Using Airport Utility 5.6 > Wireless > Wireless Network Options, my default Multicast Rate is 6. ![]()
